London Riots & Elephantom cartoons

On 6th August’11,   Riots erupted in the streets of Tottenham, North London. For 4 consecutive nights, many other parts of London and indeed other cities such as Birminham, Bristol and more in England saw these riots spread to their streets. Looting, thuggery, greed, smashing electrical stores and shops were the main themes of the rioters who were made of men women and hundreds of young children (some under 10 yrs!).   Following this the Government and Police have started to take drastic actions, and the law courts have had 24 hr back to back sessions to for trials and sentencing of offenders (over 1000 caught by police).

Most of these cartoons were drawn in the week that changed Great Britain (4th- 14th August 2011).

Below are 3 additional (non-Elephantom) cartoons that further comment’ on these riots and their effects on everyday society.

People asked what Elephantom would say / think on issues such as eviction of Rioters from their council homes, penalties for them etc.  here’s the thing:  I have very strict rules about Elephantom. He’s an Eco-Hero who will take action in a crisis situation. He will always try to do the right moral thing.  And more importantly he leave policy making to others.
